Sometimes a picture says it all. The one that moved me in this video is Catherine handing a baby's bottle through the railings to her partner for the child. A mother separated from her child two weeks before Christmas. You have to achieve a certain callousness of heart to engineer this situation. And what was Catherine's crime? Why has she been separated from her baby? She spoke out. She has alleged an assault by two technicians employed by the management company and reported it to the Gardai. The family has been evicted as a result. What kind of Dickensian nightmare are we living that right on our doorstep such contempt for a struggling young family can pass as acceptable. And how many more stories are there waiting to be told in St. Catherine's Gate.

They continued to argue, but there was no physical contact from either party. The garda seemed to be leaving, the situation seemed defused. After moving about 30 feet up the street the garda turned back looking aggressive, and that prompted me to start filming. The garda took out the pepper spray and the rest is what you see in video. We couldn’t hear anything through the glass but the guy didn’t display aggressive body language. My colleague and I confronted the garda after the fact and the first words out of his mouth were “I suppose you want to make a complaint.”
It’s worth noting that a few days ago, when the same homeless man was being harassed and threatened with stabbing by another man we called the Gardaí and they never showed up…
What do we need , social housing

It recently emerged that Wexford County Council was offered 161 properties from NAMA, but they only took 61, and we still don't know why.
Wexford Housing Action - NAMA Auction Statement*******NAMA Sell Off in Wexford********Today in Riverchapel there is a huge lot of NAMA properties up for auction, including 36 houses at various stages of development, and lands zoned for development. The buyers will be big investment funds whose interests are directly at odds with the people who are suffering as a result of both the housing crisis, and the intense marketisation of housing generally. It recently emerged that Wexford County Council was offered 161 properties from NAMA, but they only took 61, and we still don't know why.Below is the video statement on the auction from IHN member group Wexford Housing Action Group_______________________________________________________Updates (1) Reports of a large number of activists currently disrupting the auction.Update (2) Auction Successfully stopped :-)

Th protest was a collective organising effort from Wexford Housing Action Group (a member of the Irish Housing Network) and a range of community members and activists from Wexford, Wicklow and Dublin who successfully stopped an auction of NAMA properties.
From the video what is clear that the Gardai attempted to arrest one man, after the man appears to refuse to give him his name. A lot of shouting breaks out as the the man is wrestled to the ground in the middle of a crowd.
Separately a older man is knocked to the ground and it can be seen that a walking stick is trying to be pulled off him by a police officer. People surrounding the man are making it clear that the man has Parkinsons which is why he has a walking stick.
The footage pans back to the police officer who attempted an initial arrest. Earlier in the video his shoulder badge number is recognisable as WX 152. He can be seen to walk forward, and then simultaneously pivot whilst remove his extendable metal baton.
He reaches back with his right arm and swings full force to strike a man. As the police swings to strike the man, the man has his arms down by his side and is struck full force with the metal bar to the head and arm. The man falls to the ground.
The man was treated at the scene after an ambulance was called. It is understood his injuries were not ‘serious.’
Gardai themselves have spoken out about inadequate training for using batons opens them up to legal action being taken against them. There seems to be grounds for such action – in the face of widepsread public reaction – to be taken in this instance.
Garda were initially issued with 21 inch ASD extendable batons in Nov 2001, in a move seen by many as controversial at the time. In 2013 GSOC criticised An Garda Siochana for its use and subsequent attempts to cover up manic batoning of students at a demonstration outside the Dept of Finance.
WARNING: Its very violent

The occupiers, including An Spréach, put questions to Owen Keegan, Chief Executive Officer of Dublin City Council. Unfortunately the first (and longer) section of this questioning is missing as the file is too large to upload. It may however be uploaded at a later date.

The couple have an appointment at 10am this morning with SDCC however they do not expect much from it.

A peacefull assembly took place at the entrance to the City West Hotel which was hosting the Irish Country Music Awrds this evening. Concerned people of Ireland took part at the assembly to object to K-Tech Security which has been evicting people and families in a thuggerish manner which has left many traumatised, including a horse that was brutally butchered. K-Tech's approach to evictions is callous, intimidating and threatening. The Land League of Ireland has called for a boycott on K-Tech Securities to stop their evictions taking place. Candles were brought to highlight and remember those that have died from taking their own lives because of the constant threat over them by banks seeking to reposess family homes.
