Housing Memories 1922
Mabbot Lane 1922.
One of the biggest lanes in Monto, it still retains its old name.
Some of the people I interviewed on the history of Monto live in little white washed cottages on the right of the photo. There was an entrance in from Corporation Street trough the ground floor out to the big back yard where the cottages where, my mother lived in them when she got married.
One of the interviewees told me at night she would hear the screams of the prostitutes getting beatings, sometimes of the Madams pimps or off the clients they took down the lane. She said many women had different spots along the lane that they would use and many women worked for different Madams.
