Tenements in Hendrick st also known as Dutch Billys is where my Grandparents lived up until the mid 1940s. On the afternoon of the 30th May 1941 my Grandmother and her sister where out watching the kids play on the street when they where approached by a lady with a young boy who asked if they would look after him for a couple of hours as she had to go into town and being the kind ladies that they were said no problem leave him playing there with the kids he will be alright. As the hours passed the lady never returned, there was some suggestion she might have been killed in the North Strand bombings. As the days turned into months she never returned to pick up her child and after searching for her to no avail they decided to rear the child between the both of them until he was old enough to do his own thing.
