Our first night back and what a bitterly cold night! The decision to come back was unfortunately so badly needed. We had nearly 400 meals, fruits, bakery stuff, chocolates, tea and coffee. The queues were very long and people were getting so desperate. We are very grateful to everyone who cooked and donated.

The fight for housing justice isn't going to be won by voting for a different government in three or four years time. Anyone who says different is either a liar or a fool, or possibly both.
The current profit-driven approach to housing is underpinned by the most powerful political and financial interests in Ireland - vested interests that will fight tooth and nail against Universal Public Housing.
The only way we're going to break their stranglehold on housing is through the slow, patient building of support for an alternative not-for-profit model of housing. And that's exactly what UP Housing is.

As a result of online pressure, Bowden Property Ltd. emailed CATU Ireland's national Comms officer in an attempt to, "educate [ourselves] and anyone else who is unsure". We are still waiting on a response from Bowden Properties Ltd. to the email we sent on Wednesday 28th October confirming that they have ceased the practice of charging unlawful letting fees.
While we wait for Bowden's response, we want to invite any current or former tenants of a Bowden Property rental or room-share property to chat to us about their experience with Bowden. We would be particularly interested in hearing about whether they've been required to pay a fee for a "set up pack" - as a mandatory fee of any kind would violate local rulings on the what fees can be charged to the tenant.

A Resident of the Assisted Living Houses & Apartments of the Disability’s Service @ St.Marys
will mount a One Woman protest SOCIALLY DISTANCED WITH MASKS outside the company offices of BAKER TILLY, who are liquidating the services and homes of the remaining 17 blind visually impaired and disabled residents at the appointment of the High Court petitioned by the former company St Marys Centre Telford
She is doing so out of desperation. Her feelings of abandonment by the company St Marys Centre Telford, the Shareholders, The Sisters of Charity, The HSE and the State in its refusal by the Minister for Health to even respond to their situation or engage with the Sisters to request that they bequeath the service to be run publicly to protect the facility for the future.
We have already seen this last two weeks, the appalling treatment by the State of the survivors of the religious institutions like Mother & Baby Homes, the same Sisters of Charity are now treating some of their former students of the school and home for the Blind with the same disregard and cruelty by allowing their homes to be included in the liquidation of the nursing home. They were given a loose and unconfirmed promise if a two year stay from relocation from their homes. But this has not been guaranteed by either the HSE OR THE SISTERS OF CHARITY. So they remain in a prolonged state of insecurity and mental anguish as to what their future is. These houses and apartments of the disability service were in fact built through funding received for social housing from DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL, for the very purpose of housing women with disabilities. How can they now be allowed to be liquidated as an asset of a company set up by the Sisters of Charity to run their former institution. We are asking people if you can come out to support this resident tomorrow @ 1pm Holles Street outside Baker Tilly where we will walk with her to the Dept of Health on Baggot Street and ask the MINISTER DONNELLY to step up for these women and FUND THEIR HOMES DONT CLOSE THEM!

Further action will be taken if the tenant's demands for fair treatment and notice aren't met.

This was taken last night at our table on Grafton street. Leo Vadkar was across the road in captain America from 7.30 to beyond 9.30. We have always seen the vast wealth in Grafton street and our table as irony on the most expensive street in Dublin poverty is seen everywhere. This is a country of haves and have nots and those that have are the government and their cronies while we the 99% are set a drift.
Our goal is to work our way out of a table by ending poverty but we cant do it with you guys we need not just your donations but for you to call the government out on their record on poverty and homelessness and Direct Provison we wont leave anyone hungry or behind so make a stand with us on August 15th and demand action on homelessness.

There was alot of new faces too that have been made homeless due to the housing crisis and lack of Government will to resolve the homeless crisis ..Thankfully due to everyones kindness we had enough hot food and snacks etc to cater for 300 people all the food ran out just before 9. We had alot of clothes and toiletries that were handed out tonight. Thank you to everyone who donates and cooks and the amazing volunteers that make this all possible every week. Seagull House flats in Crumlin are rented by Dublin City Council to tenants who have enough. For years now they have been complaining about rat infestation, damp, mould and anti-social behaviour, and little has been done. Last week they mounted a protest outside the local council offices, supported by housing activists and People Before Profit. Fair play to the organisers; these protests will grow and proliferate. DCC tenants deserve safe housing as much as anyone; DCC must be called out over their outrageous neglect of tenant's rights.

Some of over 1,000 acres of land owned by South Dublin County Council in the middle of West Dublin (Clondalkin/Lucan) that has been lying idle since they bought it, over half since the 80s. Thousands of houses could be built using only a fraction of this land to provide Social and genuinely affordable homes with all costs including the purchase price of the land covered. Lots of talk and lots of plans over many years, but the grass grows away undisturbed in these fields

Tonight was essentially a “successful” night for us. We had food for everyone, lots of clothes and toiletries and even treats for most people. Our volunteers looked after our service users and our cooks and bakers outdid themselves.
But even on your best night it’s nothing but a plaster or a bandaid on what is just a horrific wound.
This issue is beyond crisis.
People always want to talk to us about the children we meet and how sad that is. If I’m honest I find the older generation that use our service even more heartbreaking. It seems there is no time left for change for them, a dearth of hope really. To be living in food or heat poverty at their age, relying on a soup kitchen for necessities is horrifying to witness.
I watch this woman eat her meal from a plastic bowl on a window sill every week and I despair that this is her ‘golden years’.
Tonight as we thought we’d had a successful night and packed up for home, word reaches us that another homeless person has died on our streets. God love this poor man, perished while forgotten to this horrendous crisis. The indignity of it all. We are all saddened but unfortunately not surprised.
