We stated in our report, launched in July 2017, that the homeless crisis is going to worsen significantly and unfortunately we have already been proven correct. There was a shocking increase of 153 new children homeless in Dublin in just one month of july - The number of children homeless in Dublin has risen from 567 in June 2014 to 2423 in July –a 327% increase in three years. At that rate of increase we could see over 6000 children homeless in Dublin in 2020.

CEO Anthony Flynn speaking outside the Dail today about the real pervasive issue in this country-homeless children. United in our efforts, we can make these children's dreams of a place to call home a reality. No child should be left behind. The Mynameis campaign will not not stop until each and every single last child opens the door to a home, their future. #mynameis #ICHH #theresnoplacelikehome

We want to build 20,000 houses a year - as part of our plan to end the housing crisis. But the government is intent of gifting more public land into private hands. They want to knock down council housing and build 'high density' housing with private developers. We are going to build a people power movement to kick out the landlord parties.

I think of a young couple regularly, Tom and Mary, who are sleeping in a tent up in the Phoenix Park. They are from the country and even in the short time I have known them the physical and mental health of Tom in particular has noticeably deteriorated. He is no longer his bubbly and youthful self. They need a home not a tent frequented by rats in the Phoenix Park.
Giving preference to foreign vulture funds over young couples like Tom and Mary is government policy. Homelessness is part of government policy which is why Coveney's promise to have nobody in emergency accomodation by July was a lie. It was a lie because it was the government itself who created the shortage of housing by stopping the social housing build. The building of social housing needs to be re-started as a matter of urgency.
Mick Wallace has been at the forefront of highlighting this issue in the Dail more than most TDs. This is a contribution by Mick from last year where he nails the problem firmly at the government's door.

Children who grew up in a car park in caravans, chanting "WE HAVE RIGHTS" at police dressed in riot gear is not the scenario that should be played out in a modern society any where but unfortunately this is what is happening in Sligo.

Does the Minister really think that 5,000 Evictions is acceptable? Really? Does he have any regard for the additional thousands of voluntary surrenders of family homes because the Banks and Vulture Funds have simply harassed and worn down struggling homeowners to the point of exhaustion? Are we seeing real Government policy here? Passing the buck to Banks who created the problem in the first place!

A homeless mother in Carlow faces being arrested for a 3rd time for asking for help. A letter from junior housing minister Damian English directed Karen to access the services in Carlow County Council but the Council would rather have this woman sleep on the streets (which she had to do last night) or in a police cell. They won't even talk to her and have have directed the Gardai to have Karen and her supporters barred from the PUBLIC offices of Carlow County Council under threat of arrest.

Landlord Coveney wants to give 25 acres of land in the heart of Dundrum to his developer buddies. This land should be used to provide affordable homes to hundreds of local families who have been priced out of the greater Dundrum community they grew up in.

The deepening housing crisis has many causes. This short video tries to explain some of the causes, how this crisis has unfolded in Mayo over the past 3 years and what the authorities are doing or not doing about it. Ultimately, this crisis will be solved when the political will exists. And for that to happen, we must have solidarity. The people of Ireland deserve much better than what we are getting.
