Hang on there son Homelessness
Homelessness is tragic I was walking to my car after work one day and I seen what I thought was a pile of rags on the ground in the corner then heard some moans comes from the rags.
I went over and it was a homeless man he had soiled himself and i noticed his arm was badly broken hanging down in fact held on by skin.
I helped him up and at that point 2 policemen walk by and i called for help stating we needed an ambulance.
The Gardai said there has to be something wrong with him I said well his arm is broken the guard shook the mans arm and he screamed in pain i will never forget it what a totally callous act. I screamed at him to stop.
I wrote this song the next day
HANG ON THERE SON
I'm standing at the crossroads of the corner of my mind
There's no place for me to go there's no place for me to hide
Somewhere in the distance I hear a siren wail
Someone kneels beside me and I think I hear him say
Chorus:
Hang on there son help is on its way
Hang on there son its going to be ok Life is never done if you want to change
What's this pain I'm feeling what's this blood upon my hands
I've given up believing I just don't understand
What the hell is life about any [bloody] way?
There's a voice it's calling me and I hear it say
Chorus:
Hang on there son help is on its way
Hang on there son its going to be ok
Life is never done if you want to change
What's this light I'm seeing its shining in my eyes
Someone is kneeling there again he whispers in my mind
He puts his hand upon me and tells me its all right
I feel my spirit healing and I hear him cry
Chorus:
Hang on there son help is on the way
Hang on there son its going to be ok
You can rise above it you can fly
